At a very early age Shihan Robert Hawk discovered that he was committed to serving others. He became certified in CPR and First Aid at age 14. He later served as a volunteer fireman in his hometown and pursued studies in early childhood education and personal development. He began his formal martial arts training at age 12 in Mu Shin Do, a system that blends Okinawan principles with Chinese concepts and philosophies. He continued training in this system until his enlistment in the United States Navy. During his military service he was a hospital corpsman and underwent the demanding BUDD/s (Basic Underwater Demolition) training. His global travels allowed him to explore various martial art systems from around the world, including TKD, JKD, Perkwar (Monkey), Aikido, Taijitsu, American Kempo and a host of other styles. This exposure fueled his desire to learn as much as he could about the mysteries of the arts.

Sensei Robert HawkFollowing his Navy service, Shihan Hawk committed himself to furthering his understanding of the arts. He began a rigorous training regimen and embarked on a journey to find a Master and an art that reflected what he felt best represented the essence of martial training. His search ended when he met Professor David R. Villanueva who taught Shaolin Kempo Karate. He began training in this system and was eventually awarded a black belt. Following Professor Villanueva’s retirement, he continued his study under Headmaster Brian Allen and currently holds the rank of Sandan in the art of Shinsho Kempo Jujitsu.

During his training journey with Headmaster Allen, he traveled full circle to the values he treasured in childhood, and realized that his greatest reward in teaching martial arts is service to others. Consequently, his role as an instructor in Shinsho Kempo Jujitsu has been exceptionally satisfying because it has provided him with the opportunity to help others on their own journeys toward self-discovery, empowerment, and serenity.
