Shihan Dale Beaman’s interest in the martial arts began in early adolescence when he was first introduced to Judo and Aikido. His pursuit of the arts includes studies in Bok Fu, Shaolin Kempo, and Shinsho Kempo Jujitsu. His life long interest in the arts has earned him a black belt in Shaolin Kempo and he currently holds the rank of fifth degree black belt in Shinsho Kempo Jujitsu. Shihan Dale maintains that, "Shinsho Kempo Jujitsu is extremely powerful and equips the student with a comprehensive martial arts system. The level and type of response is tailored to meet the demand characteristics of any given situation. The ability to handle and respond appropriately in any circumstance fosters confidence."

Shihan Dale holds a Masters and Doctorate Degree in psychology and is an author and educator in the field of human relations and behavior. He is both a psychologist and marriage & family therapist and has over twenty-eight years of experience in the practice of clinical psychology, working with adults, children, adolescents, and families. Dr. Beaman’s in-depth understanding of the psyche and human behavior, his love of teaching and guiding others toward self-discovery and improvement, combined with his knowledge of the martial arts, blend to valuably compliment his instruction in the Shinsho Kempo Jujitsu system. According to Shihan Dale, "The martial arts are the perfect vehicle to gain self-understanding and realize one’s place in the world. How an individual approaches training and the challenges inherent therein, reflect how he/she approaches life. Consequently, opportunities abound for self-discovery and growth. People often enter the arts simply wanting to learn to strike and kick to defeat an opponent but are, in fact, provided the means for transcendence."

True to the ancient masters, Shihan Dale approaches the arts from a very spiritual perspective. He combines the wisdom of the East with solid values of the West. He feels that many western instructors wrongly teach empty ego building and emphasize defeating others, Shihan Dale Beamanrather than building real self-worth, which leads to quiet confidence. This perception frees the individual from an egocentric orientation and allows for possessing a broader and more mature viewpoint, which focuses beyond the self toward a greater concern for others and betterment of community. Consequently, as the individual advances in the arts there should be an overcoming of the ego, identification with others, and a corresponding interest in restoring and maintaining harmony. Shihan Dale maintains that, "Every physical altercation is an opportunity for spiritual awakening. Defending oneself in such a way that you harmonize with the opponent, and leave him unharmed but shaken, aware of his foolishness and vulnerability, allows him to rethink his motives, actions and desires. In essence, a door has been opened inviting change."

Shihan Dale is the father of three grown children. When not involved in teaching the martial arts, he enjoys writing, traveling, enjoying new restaurants, jogging, camping, and working in his Japanese garden.
